Street Performers and Artist
Rights
SPAR is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to the protection and preservation
of free speech rights and
freedom from illegal search and seizure for street
performers, artists,
musicians, poets and free thinkers everywhere.
If you have ever been
hassled, cited, arrested, intimidated or had your
artistic tools or
possessions confiscated by law enforcement authorities or
if you are being
harassed by local merchants, YOU HAVE RIGHTS! The US
Constitution is on
your side.
SPAR's mission is to provide a forum for street performers and
artists all
across the United States to research, discuss and provide
resources and
information about their constitutional rights. In
addition, SPAR hopes to
create a network for artists to promote themselves
and to raise positive
awareness about the importance and cultural value of
art, music, poetry and
the expression of ideas in public spaces.
SPAR
believes you are free to speak your mind, sing your song, create your
art and
make the world a more interesting, thought-provoking and beautiful
place to
live in -- all free from fear and intimidation.
"Those who expect to reap
the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo
the fatigues of supporting
it." -- Thomas Jefferson
SPAR was created by Atom Geld, The World's
Fastest Painter. Atom fought for
his freedom to speak and create on the
streets of Los Angeles through legal
action and not only won his case, but
also changed the way police must treat
all street performers and artists in
the second largest city in America.
